The Chamber of Crafts and Skilled Trades Münster (Handwerkskammer Münster, HWK), established in 1900, is a regional body incorporated under public law and is responsible for some 24,500 crafts firms and business with approximately 140.000 employees and 16.000 apprentices in the district of the chamber. The chamber employes ca. 270 employees and 360 freelance teachers. The large competencies of the chamber in the field of vocational education and training are concentrated in general on fostering VET and in specific on: Kontaktstelle Ausland since 2003 implementation of exchange programms for apprentices and skilled workers as well as participation in European Projects, master of crafts qualification in 32 of 94 crafts professions, supplementary vocational training for apprentices in 32 crafts professions, postgraduate professional education etc. Since 1990 participation in numorous European Programs (COMETT; FORCE; INTERPRISE; PHARE; OUVERTURE; LEONARDO DA VINCI I + II; SOKRATES-GRUNDTVIG; ADAPT, EQUAL - see also HWK Münster / Projects). |

The Central Agency for Continuing Vocational Education and Training in the Skilled Crafts (Zentralstelle für die Weiterbildung im Handwerk e. V., ZWH) is a non-profit organisation established by the umbrella organization of the 54 German chambers of skilled crafts to support and promote their 550 training centres. ZWH is centrally responsible for the development of training course concepts and the provision of services around continuing vocational education and training which have a high quality and reflect the state of the art. The standardized concepts and services of ZWH have numerous advantages: They ensure unique quality standards for all training institutions, save costs for double developments, guarantee transparency of course subjects and durations and therefore facilitate the participants' professional mobility. ZWH carries out international projects in the field of vocational education and training in cooperation with partners from many countries. The aim is to support the internationalisation of vocational education and training. Currently ZWH cooperates with Austria, China, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Spain and Turkey. |

Since 1951 the Forschungsinstitut für Berufsbildung im Handwerk an der Universität zu Köln (FBH) has surveyed special problems of VET in SMEs, especially in the crafts sector. Being a research facility within the German Crafts Institute (Deutsches Handwerksinstitut, DHI) the FBH is responsible for the topics “vocational education and training”. Furthermore it is a member of different nationwide networks concerned with vocational education and training in the crafts sector. It is on the committee of the Deutscher Handwerkskammertag (DHKT) as well as the Central Association of the German Crafts Sector (Zentralrat des Deutschen Handwerks, ZDH). In the frame of international projects concerning VET-sciences especially topics like professional mobility or comparison or recognition of qualifications are treated. The testing of relevant European instruments – like the European Qualification Frame (EQF) or the European Credit Point System for vocational education and training (ECVET) – play a major role. |

The Borgund vidaregaande skole (BVS) in Aalesund is a vocational school for approx. 750 students and with 180 employees in 5 departments: Electrical Engineering, Health and Social Professions, Design and Arts and Crafts, Construction, Technical Engineering and Industrial Production. Altogether some 200 professions are taught. In most profession the school teaches the theoretical part within 2 years, and the apprentices will finish the practical part within a company. Being the largest VET school in the region the school is in good contact with the local economy. BVS also is partner of the Chamber of Crafts and Skilled Trades Münster within the exchange programme Gjör det. Since 2004 the mutual exchange of apprentices has taken part with approx. 20 apprentices at a time. Also mobility projects in cooperation with Spain and Ireland are currently under preparation. Further, BVS was partner of the HWK Münster within a Leonardo da Vinci Mobility Project for person responsible for VET. |

The Association Ouvrière des Compagnons du Devoir du Tour de France (AOCDTF) developed from the tradition of travelling crafts men. It supports the start into a professional career in the crafts sector as well as skilled peripatetic workers, who would like to gain further experiences at home and abroad. In cooperation with companies at home and abroad it offers vocational education and training in 23 professions in its own training centres within France and Europe. Frequently 5.200 apprentices are sent by crafts companies to the AOCDTF training centres. 3.000 skilled peripatetic workers gain further qualification with help of the organisation. 5.500 employees a year participate in AOCDTF seminars.
Part of the numerous international exchange programs is the annual exchange of joiner apprentices in cooperation with the Chamber of Crafts and Skilled Trades Münster. By 2010 all apprentices, who are trained in cooperation with AOCDTF, will have participated in a practical training abroad. The AOCDTF was partner within the Leonardo da Vinci Pilot Project “Apprenti(e)s Europe interactifs“ (www.aei-info.net) which aim it was to increase mobility. |

The ROC Midden Nederland is one of the biggest vocational education and training centres of the Netherlands with places for some 26.000 students and 2.200 employees in the fields of tourism, economy, art and media, technology. According to the level, the apprenticeship lasts up to 4 years. It is performed either full- or part-time. All apprenticeship contain practical phases within companies. The ROC cooperates with approx. 800 companies in the region. As international relations are of high priority ROC offers its students practical trainings abroad, founded by LL and other programs. Also mobility programmess for teachers are offered. In addition Leonardo Pilot Projects are of great importance. The project Placement support, e. g. (www.placementsupport.com) was granted with the Helsinki Quality Award. ROC was partner of the HWK Münster within the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility Project for persons responsible for VET. |

The Central Organisation of the Kolping-Association Poland is the leading organ of the Kolping-Association, and counts 1008 Members and 36 Kolping-families. Part of the Kolping-Association is the Kolping-youth with a total of 205 members. Next to the general social commitment of the Kolping-Association and -youth a particular interest is in the development and accentuation of international cooperation. Lancaster & Morecambe College, UK, is a public-sector Further education college providing vocational training and education. It employs 1,000 staff and has 7,500 students. It has a wide range of work-based learning programmes (apprenticeship training) as well as full-time courses for crafts. It also has its own web-design department and has extensive experience of developing web-based information. It has taken part in a number of trans-national activities in recent years including Leonardo Mobility and Training Bridge projects. It has recently completed a 3 year Grundtvig project which designed and delivered an online tool-kit for teachers. This can be accessed at www.assetproject.info. |
